Vik is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with sub specialist expertise in spinal surgery, where his care utilises modern non-operative and operative techniques.
He works at Stepping Hill Hospital which is an NHS Foundation Trust in Stockport Cheshire. He also works privately at the Regency Hospital in Macclesfield and the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. His areas of expertise and interest are minimally invasive (key hole) spinal surgery such as microdiscectomy, X-Stop surgery for spinal stenosis, cement augmentation of painful spinal fractures, back pain treatment such as injections and surgery including fusions, disc replacements, and spinal stabilisation with non-fusion (motion preserving) devices such as the Wallis ligament and disc replacement.
Most of Vik's surgical training was around the south coast of England with senior registrar training in Southampton University Hospital. He spent the first 4 years of the training programme covering all aspects of orthopaedic and trauma surgery, and dedicated the last 3 years entirely to spinal surgery. His expertise in spinal surgery was attained from holding the national spinal fellowship post at the Leeds spinal unit, an internationally renowned spinal unit, under the supervision of Professor Bob Dickson, Mr Peter Millner (St James Hospital, Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery) and Mr Jerry Towns at Leeds General Infirmary (Neurosurgery).
He is actively involved in teaching and research. |
