Mr. Brian Todd qualified in medicine at the Edinburgh Medical School in 1980. After house jobs in Edinburgh he undertook basic training in general surgery in Glasgow and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1984.
Moving south he was registrar on the Guys/St. Thomas' orthopaedic rotation in London, before completing orthopaedic training as senior registrar to the Sheffield Hospitals.
After obtaining the Intercollegiate fellowship in orthopaedic surgery he moved to Stockport in 1992 as a consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, with a special interest in lumbar spine surgery. He was a founder member of the North West spine group in 1993.
Mr. Todd is a past clinical director of the trauma and orthopaedic department in Stockport and Royal College surgical tutor to the hospital. He is involved in the training of surgeons at every level and sits as the Royal College of Surgeons representative on consultant appointments committees around England. He has continued to maintain a trauma and general orthopaedic practice throughout his career. He is the lead orthopaedic clinician at Stepping Hill Hospital's hip fracture unit, which has led development of hip fracture management through the organization of a multicentre regional audit for some years. Now the senior of three spinal surgeons at Stepping Hill Hospital and established for many years in the low back clinic at the Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle, Mr. Todd is at the forefront of the development of spinal services across the region in the NHS and the private sector.
