Mr Michael O'Connor qualified in medicine at Manchester University in 1989. After general surgical training in North Manchester and orthopaedic SHO posts in Trafford and Bolton, he obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1994. He undertook his Specialist Registrar training in the Mersey region including a 12 month fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery at Wrightington Hospital. He obtained his FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2001. He moved to Stockport in 2003 as a Consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery specialising in hip and knee surgery.
Mr O'Connor is part of a busy Hip Surgery Unit at Stepping Hill Hospital, which specialises in hip arthroplasty for the young adult patient, this including resurfacing hip replacements, large head metal on metal and ceramic on ceramic hip replacements. Mr O'Connor and his hip surgeon colleagues also specialise in complex hip arthroplasty including bone-grafting techniques and acetabular reconstruction as well as revision hip surgery.
Mr O'Connor is part of a team of hip surgeons who regularly meet to discuss and share results. He also performs knee arthroplasty, knee arthroscopy and most aspects of lower limb trauma.
